There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, as long as it isn't the only thing you read. We read for many reasons, including entertainment. It's fine to read something because it's fun, but be sure to challenge yourself occasionally. Too often people get stuck in one genre and don't try new things. I read romance novels almost exclusively until I was 25 or so. Then I tried mysteries, then science fiction, and now I read everything from Tom Robbins to Nora Roberts to Jane Austen.

I agree about the book bashing. It's not necessary. Everyone has different tastes and should be allowed to read what they want to without being ridiculed. I happen to love romance novels and young adult literature, even though I'm not a young adult. I work a serious job and if I want to read fiction (any kind at all) for my own entertainment it certainly does not mean I am illiterate or stupid.

To answer your question yes, I find romance novels very interesting. They cover a wide range of tastes from modern day tales of finding love in a big city or small town, to finding love with with a werewolf or a vampire. You can travel back in time to a Victorian Era or travel forward in time to a future that exists only in imagination. The prevalent theme with romance novels is overcoming obstacles and finding your way through love, which is something I think the world could benefit from.

I love Romance novels. I believe that you shouldn't bash something you haven't tried, which many people often do when it comes to romance novels. Most of the books I read are historical, you learn quite a bit about the different time periods. The authors do a great job researching and trying to stay as accurate as possible. Romance novels have changed alot since the bodice ripping days. These women are strong, free thinkers. I think the worst thing about romance books besides how many people bash them is the cover art. The author has no control over what is put on the cover of the book, and they are not always tasteful. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but please try it before you bash it. BTW Eloisa James is a great author, shes also a Harvard, Oxford and Yale graduate who is currently a associate professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the English Department at Fordham University. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

It depends on how good the author is. Before I ever read any romance novels, I assumed they were all ridiculous and pathetic and poorly written. Then my sister suggested I read Nora Roberts. My opinion changed to, Nora Roberts is good, but all the others are lame. Well, I decided to expand my horizons a little. I've read Jennifer Blake, Jayne Ann Krentz, and Sandra Brown. To varying degrees I find them interesting. I love a well-written romance (Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, Gone with the Wind). If a person considers all romances silly, I'd say they haven't read enough.

I think it is more for teenyboppers or tweenies who are curious about that sort of thing because they lack personal experience. If I were going to write for that sort of market I would chose books with multiple endings. WHere the reader choses the direction the book will take. Providing annd are athat questions the reader as to which choice the heroine will make next a b or c and then According ot the those choices teach valuable lessons on behavior or edicaate. SO the the best choices lead to the happy ending.

Well I assume your talking about trashy romance novels, which I personally think are a waste of time and paper. But there is a lot of good romance literature out there.

a very obvious and slightly overused example would be romeo & juliet. I dont usually read that particular genre so im sorry but I dont have any better suggetions. Im sure you can find someone on here who does though.

Children's Lit is the best. No one really wants to be bogged down by allusions and all kinds of crap. Sometimes it's good to pick up a silly book like Goosebumps and just enjoy yourself.

I vote no for romance literature.

Some of it is fun. Some is annoying. More and more of it is fantasy and science fiction which I love and makes it better. I like to read it between heavier reads, but there are some really good things out there in it.

If you're talking about Romanticism (19th century), it's my favorite period in literature. Through Romanticism I learned what romance REALLY is, and I realized I was a romantic person.

It is fiction. There is wonderful fiction I approve for children because it encourages them to read. Fiction is an appropriate pacifier also for adult children. You didn't ask for the truth--you asked what I think -- so the answer is that I think most fiction is a terrible bore when non fiction is available and fills a need.
