There's an episode where his flat burns down, and he's looking through all his charred vinyl records, the rare, irreplacable opera recordings, and he gets visibly tearful. I found that very moving.

Prefer the books though - my favourite being Daughters of Cain. This was filmed, but it was changed massively cos in it Morse falls passionately in love with a 20 year old punk call girl. Suppose they didn't think that would translate well to the screen.
