You would actually need to reformat your hard drive to do that. Be careful though, unless you have the installation disks you won't be able to install anything that you have erased.

Well, it sounds like you want to reload the system. Depending on what disks you got from the manufacturer, this is what you will need to do.

If they gave you a Recovery Disk, just put it into the cd drive and reboot. It should boot up to a setup program. Just follow the instructions and it should reload everything.

If they gave you a Windows XP disk and some driver disks it makes it a little more complicated, but not much. Put in the XP CD and reboot the computer. It will boot in the XP Setup program. Tell it you want to install. At some point it will ask you if you want to format your drive. If you want everything you currently have gone, say "Yes". Once Windows is reloaded. Get your driver disks and install them. You should be back up and running.

BTW, if there is any data (Documents, pictures, music, etc) you want to save. Copy it off your hard drive before doing either of these.

Good luck.

well you can always make your pc new, WITHOUT LOOSING ANY DATA OR SETTINGS, with the help of some tools like, Absolute uninstaller (for sticky programs which you cant find in Add/Remove Programs list), RegCleaner, good Antivirus, Spyware remover. I suggest you perform a complete virus and spyware scan..NOD32 and Spywar doctor are pretty good...and you can do it while evaluating the software for free..then get a complete care done be System Mechanic..it performs quite well..this might speed up your machine...

and if you want it new...copy the important data (dont forget Documents folder) from current windows installation drive to some other drive then put in Windows bootable disk...format the current windows drive and install new copy..i would suggest installing an antivirus and antispyware before installing nething else...rather before even accessing other drives...its very important to keep the PC virus and spyware free...

You don't easily do this.

First, you need to make sure that you have ALL of the installation disks that came with your computer. You will need them to reinstall all of the programs that came originally installed. You will especially need your Windows installation CD.

Next, backup all of your data files. Best to copy them to CD or DVD. This includes any documents, music files, pictures, etc. They will be gone when you erase your hard drive. A good way to do this is by using the File and settings transfer wizard in the accessories / system tools folder. But don't count on it finding everything, check to make sure. Copy the data file it creates to a CD or DVD.

Boot your PC using your Windows installation CD. Do a fresh install. When prompted for a location. Delete your C drive partition and re-create it. Format using NTFS.

After installing Windows, re-install all of the programs that came with your PC. Download and install all of the Windows critical updates.

Go back to the file and settings transfer wizard and use it to reinstall all of the files it saved from your old installation.

Copy your data files back to your PC from your CDs.

You need to go to the start menu - then accessories - then system - then you should see system restore.....which will not erase any programs you have downloaded, it will just restore the settings.

If you want to remove programs you do not use - go to the start menu - then the control panel - then Add/Remove programs - and choose the ones you want to get rid of.

The last option is to completely reformat the hard drive, which will erase EVERYTHING, including windows. I do not recommend this if you do not know what you are doing. Good luck.

Wow there's so many wrong answers in here. Anyways you only need one thing assuming you have Xp. The Xp installation cd or the recovery cd that came with your computer. Boot into the cd by putting it in your cd drive as soon as you power up the computer. After booting into the cd, you have to delete the current partitions, create new partitions, and reformat them. After reformatting them then you proceed to installation. It's all pretty self explanatory afterwards. Then if you're missing some drivers, you can usually download them online. If you're missing the nic card driver then you can't go online and you're screwed. But, you can go to another computer and download the nic card driver into a pen drive or something and then transfer that to your computer and then you're not so screwed.

it is usually a bad idea to reinstall windows, as long as everything is working. just spend some time in control panel> add/remove programs. this is where oyu get rid of those programs. also to speed up your computer (especailly during boot up) go to start>run>type msconfig. select selective atartup. click services tab. google the services to find out what needs to stay on and what is just slowing down your computer. then go to the start up tab. do the same thing there. restart your computer and it will be running faster.

You can use Fdisk option in the command prompt so that you can format the Pc and start installed your drive with fresh OS.

BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL THE DRIVERS WITH YOU BEFORE DOING SO.

All the best.
