My NERO version 6 doesnt burn a lot of files including RAR, split AVI files using HJ split, as well as numerous other files it doesnt recognise. I never had this problem until I replaced my old burner and needed to load a program to allow me to burn with my new one. Is there is free program available to allow me to burn anything of any format.

Yes, I think what you remembered is right, burn any video files to DVD-R that can be played well on dvd player, first you have to convert your video files to standard video dvd(DVD format, Video_TS folder) which contains VOB, IFO and BUP files, then directly burn the VIDEO_TS folder onto a DVD disc, but I don't think nero is good at video dvd converting and burning, because nero just support some special format video files well, so I think you can follow me to use a better software RZ DVD Creator, it can conevrt any video files to standard video DVD and burn to any dvd disc(DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc), such as convert and burn AVI files to standard video DVD, and the burned standard video DVD can be played well on your dvd player. You can yahoo or google search and downlaod RZ DVD Creator, easy to use, hope it could help you.
