Only in Dudley - the official tolerance zone. Also Sedgefield where the local politician regularly prostitutes the whole country.

You should know that everything which moves, breaths or which demonstrates a faint pulse, is automatically regarded as criminal, immoral or socially irresponsible in the UK, unless it happens to play cricket or is a member of the freemasons.
It is perfectly legal to proposition someone for sex, so long as you do it in the right way, and preferably over dinner, as George Bernard-Shaw did, when he asked if the Duchess would sleep with him for £10. Outraged, she replied that she would certainly not, whereupon George Bernard-Shaw asked if she would sleep with him for £20,000.
After considering this hypothetical proposition, the Duchess replied, "Well I would have to seriously consider it, Mr Shaw."
Shaw replied, "So madam, we have established what you are, and it is merely the price we are haggling about."
It is a FACT of life, that many women (and quite a lot of young men) will sleep with a wealthy gentleman, if there is money to be made out of it. Some wealthy men make their conquests respectable, and marry them or take them on board as live-in partners.
In any event, the act of prostituing oneself is not illegal, and at the age of 57, I fear that I passed that particular opportunity up many years ago., and a career change would not, I feel, be in my best interests.
As the LAW stands, it may be perfectly legal to prostitute oneself, but actually touting for business on the streets is illegal, which is why many prostitutes use calling "cards" placed in telephone boxes and in railway stations, or now use the internet to advertise their profession.
British SOCIETY is so hung-up about sex, it has devised laws which actually make the situation worse than it would otherwise be. Because we do not allow brothels and other forms of "interesting" recreation, the problem spills onto the streets, where the girls and clients run the gauntlett of the law on one hand, and the dangers of violence and robbery on the other.
The fact that girls are not allowed to establish brothels, also means that they come into contact with "gang-masters" who lure them into drugs, a life of dependency, the fear of recriminations from violent "pimps" and the dangers of clients who could be anything from murderers to sadists. Add to this the health risks of a totally unregulated "industry," and we have the mess that is the world of prostitution in the UK today.
The same is true of "gay cruising areas" which are illegal in the UK; thus criminalising something which ehetrosexual people do quite naturally on the streets quite openly.
Basically, it is all a hang-up from the puritan mentality, and is both regrettable and unecessary.
In the Netherlands, brothels (and gay cruising areas) are regarded as entirely "normal" in so much as they exist, and always have done in any society.
In spite of their very religious, protestant background, the authorities in the Netherlands took the view that by allowing such activities to take place in a controlled way, a better balanace could be achieved which would benefit both clients and prostitutes; at the same time making neighbourhoods safer.
For the "gay cruising grounds" they introduced police protection; though this is probably not necessary for the most part.
If there has been one enormous benefit to this enlightened approach, then it is the fact that sexual-disease and the spread of AIDS has been minimised, to the point that the Netherlands has the least incidence of STD's in Europe.
The laws in the UK are cruel, counter-productive, socially bad and do nothing to protect sex-workers or their clients, who will always exist, whatever people care to say or do.
I look forward to the day when girls (or young men) can be prostitutes in warm, comfortable, controlled and clean environments, because that is the ONLY civilised way, and by far the one which can be most easily monitored.

Running a brothel is unlawful in the UK. It is nowadays termed controlling prostitution for gain. It was formerly called living off immoral earnings.

there not legal but you can go to a sauna and get a massage from a sexy naked lady and if she decides she will have sex with you then that is "private matter" and money can exchange hands for this but they are not allowed to advertise/solicit , its this that is ilegal like when they aproach you in the street.
there has been numerous cerial killers in the uk who pray on prostitutes in the street
at least in the sauna they can stay safe warm and clean

No they are not legal.
A girl can work on her own but may not solicit.
Some say they should be allowed to work together for safety's sake, but that would mean legalising brothels.

No, they are not.
Prositution is - ie, it is perfectly acceptable for two people to make a private arrangement for paid sex - but soliciting business is not. Neither are brothels.

They're not legal.
However, if they're well run and don't cause trouble the police tend to turn a blind eye to them.

No they aren't, but they should be. Then we wouldn't have hookers getting murderered by psychos they meet on the street.
