Why do we keep pictures of our loved ones with us when they are in our hearts? Just for us to have a sense that they are close to us. Its the same way with Idol worship.

Second thing about Idol worship and religious rituals. have you ever looked at the Idols or pictures and carefully studied them. Each one of them states a message to the mankind. Like the little mouse eating sweets in from lord "Ganesha's" plate actually means that no matter however powerful you are (Ganesha is know to be one of the mightiest God forms in Hindus), you always gotta be humble and give way to others without looking at its other aspects. That's the reason why Ganesha, who is also known for his appetite allows the mouse to hover around his plate. We waste a lot of time in reasearching over athat half smile of Mona Lisa paintings. I think we better study such pictures and learn.

And have you ever heard the religious chants and tried to understand what they mean? If you do, you will know the depth of the chants, through which we not only praise the lord for creating this beautiful world but also for giving us human beings the power, unlike any other being to progress. We make promises to god for our duties and responsibilites. But the tough part is that a lot of people don't actually understand what these chants mean and take it as a primitive form of worhip. These chants are not actually methods of worship but a process in which you can learn about the responsibilites the almighty has endowed upon you.

:-)

They're just different views right? I think idols help people who are unused to thinking of God as an abstract benign force.

Over here in India, idols and rituals are not merely religious symbolism, but have profound cultural and social ramifications as well. You'll ave to take these factors into consideration when you're doing a comparison of the two.

No way is more correct then the other. The key factor here is faith. Some people are more comfortalbe with out idols and others feel that using them is a way to focus their prayers and energy. As long as you pray honestly and often, it doesn't matter how.

It takes all kinds to make the world go round! Why does it have to be right or wrong, one way or the other? A spiritual path of any kind is a good one as long as it serves you as you. Understand?

Perhaps they are all right. Every person is different, and each has different needs. As long as they seek to do good to the best of their ability (by "good" I mean primarily refraining from harming others), then it seems to me that whatever works for a particular person is "right" for them.

Here again it is a personal choice.

Both have their own ways that they follow or even take exceptions on certain issues.

Every one is right in their own way, as long as their practises never interfere with others.
