I've haven't had period in 7 months, I went to the doctor about 4 months ago and I'm not pregnant but Testerone and Prolactin levels are high. So she had me get an ultrasound and and MRI also a contrast one of my pituarty gland. They all came back normal. I have been getting very dizzy lately, getting migraines. gaining weight, and getting lots of hair on my face and stomach. I'm crying for no reason at all and am very depressed. My doctor said that I should see a specialist but they haven't called to schedule appointment and its been 5 days. Its seems like forever. I just want to find out what is wrong. I was on Birth conrtol for 5 years and I had a normal period with no wieght gain or bad side effects. What should I do?

Ok....first not having your cycle for 7 months could be possible if you're young, but being on birth control for 5 years, I'll assume you're 'young' but over 21 at least :). The absence of your cycle is called amenorrhea, which has nothing to do with your birth control pills, it sometimes just happens, but first let's look at all of your symptoms. (1) Amenorrhea - absence of cycle; (2) Increased Testosterone and Prolactin levels - (usually due to a pituitary gland problem); (3) The hair on your face and stomach is called Hirsutism (rapid development of this suggests an ovarian or adrenal neoplasm) - or could be hereditary or caused by a disease or even oral contraceptives i.e. birth control pills containing androgenic progestins; (4) Dizziness and MIgraines - I would say because of hypoglycemia (low glucose levels). (5) The depression and crying is just stress/hormone related. In short, you should see an endocrinologist and get evaluated for the following: (a) Cushing's Disease (not Cushing's Syndrome), (b) 11 beta-Hydroxylase Deficiency (because of the hypoglycemia and other symptoms), (c) Adrenal hyperplasia due to 21 beta hydroxylase deficiency, (d) Thyroid disorders and/or (e) POD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease). I hope this helps and is a good start to finding out what's wrong. Call your doctor's office again because they do tend to get 'backed up' and this doesn't need to wait. Furthermore, depending on the type of insurance you have, you wouldn't have to wait for you physician to schedule an appointment with an endocrinologist - you could do it yourself if you have a PPO instead of an HMO because, then you wouldn't have to wait on a physician's referral. Good luck and take care.

First of all I think I would switch doctors and if your insurance allows you to call a specialist without a referral do that .I would recommend seeing an endocrinologist may not be spelled right or you can try a nuclear medicine doctor they handle adrenal ,thyroid as well as hormones.I have the same problem with the facial and stomach hair I'm post hysterectomy so I'm not sure about the period thing but it definitely sounds like a hormone problem or possibly thyroid problem.Continue to call your doctor and worry the person up front or the nurse and they will get you help faster sometimes what they think is unimportant to them is extremely so to us.Some doctors just get my goat (lol) they want you there on time and then you have to wait on them forever. But serious you should see a doctor,I was told my hormones were changing and that I was peri-menopausal the change wasn't enough to take any medication. You did not say how old or young you were butdon't let anyone tell you it's in your head because you know it's not.I wish you well and hope you can find a doctor who can show a bit of empathy for your problem and fix it but hand on I know it's hard but once you get to the right place they will be able to find it fix it and then you are fixed and happy once again!

Did you recently see the doctor? You said you saw them 4 mos ago. Maybe they need to see you again. I would call and see if they do if it's been that long if it's been only 5 days call your doctor until you have an appointment with the specialist. I know it feels like it's taking for ever because it's happenning to you but be patient and you will find out soon what is going on.

It sounds like you have some symptoms of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, or PCOS. You can look it up on any search enging by typing in "symptoms of PCOS" and you should find a lot of info. Generally, the symptoms are irregular periods, excess hair, skin tags, and weight gain among others. It's basically controlled with birth control pills and weight loss. I haven't taken the pill as of yet, and have gotten my period naturally by losing some weight and exercising (the whole weight thing is a vicious cycle because PCOS causes you to gain weight, and makes it harder to lose it, but one of the cures IS just that.. it's not the easiest thing, but it can be done), although my period is still far from regular. I've heard of some natural supplements that help regulate periods also, I believe one of the brands is called VITEX, but you should definitely talk to your doctor or pharmacist about that. Good luck, and don't stress about it. That was the cause of a majority of my physical problems with my period/weight gain, etc originally, is stress. It's just about the worst thing, and you have to learn to control stress.. there's a lot of ways, if you research a bit you should find something that works for you, if you feel that might be a problem also, even if it's just stress about your period situation. Good luck! :o)

This is definitely something that a specialist should address. Contact your doctor and hound them about getting the appointment scheduled.

Obviously, the problems you're describing are mostly from the elevated levels of progesterone, but until you find the cause, there's not going to be anything that can be done.

Good luck - I hope things work out well in the end.

This definitely sounds like something that you should talk to an endocrinologist about. If the specialist that your doctor referred you to hasn't called for five days, call up your doctor's office. They can give you the phone number to contact the specialist's office yourself. Sometimes things like this just get lost in the shuffle, and it's up to the patient to be proactive about their medical care.

Your symptoms are scary, I know, but the odds are still great that whatever's wrong with your body will be an easy fix.

If you have high testosterone, you have a hormone imbalance, especially given your symptoms.

You should see an endocrinologist or a doctor who specializes in hormones. You can be normal within a month with the right hormones. It's fairly easy to correct-- but most doctors are clueless.

your doctor is sending you to a specialist for a reason.... for you and her to know what is wrong. the doctor you are seeing now is not a speciality doctor in this department, other wise, she would have treated you. when you see a specialist, it takes more than 5 days, sometimes months. you should call yourself to see whats up. usually you are the one to make the appointment, not them. good luck

I think you should call your doctor again and ask him or his assistance when they will schedule u to see a specialist. I know it takes time to schedule to see a specialist, the only thing u can do is to keep on follow-up on your doctor!
