Hire a tree removal service and stay inside when they're cutting the trees down. I'm not kidding. PPL have gotten killed by falling trees so this is not a DIY job.

You could use a ladder to go about 6 ft from the top and take a bungee cord to secure the ladder to the tree. I'd use a bow saw this way you won't have to worry about getting hurt with a chain saw that high up. Work your way down the tree cutting at these intervals until you feel save enough to cut with a small chainsaw. I like to remove the tree cut as you go so move it so you won't be tripping over yourself. If it's close to some structure and don't feel safe on the direction it will fall have someone on the ground with a rope and put a little tension on it. The hardest part of this job is getting rid of the tree. good luck and be safe

Have a professional do it. It’s worth the money, its insured, and it gets the job done right. But why cut them down? Unless they are rotted or leaning over the house at a bad angle or something. Otherwise, leave them be and your family can have a nice place to sit in the shade and a wind break when it gets windy. There are more advantages to having a few big trees in the yard then having no trees at all. I hope this works out for you.

You need a rope. Rope the trunk as high as possible and have someone pulling in a safe direction as you make that last cut.

when the professionals took down our trees , they started at the bottom , leaving just enough branches to get near the top . then dropped it in sections on the way down...sounds way easier than it is ...hire it out...it wasnt that expensive
