GB = Gigabytes. That's (roughly) a billion bytes. I say roughly, because in computers, you work with 1024 instead of 1000.
The bigger the number, the more songs (or photos or videos) you can store. The number of songs/videos is based on their length and how they were "compressed."
You can find a good calculator at http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipod/calculator/.
For example, with a 4GB iPod, you can expect about 1000 songs (plus or minus).

That's the memory size that tells you the approximate number of songs you can have.
1024 Bytes = 1 KiloByte (KB)
1048576 Bytes = 1 MegaByte (MB)
1073741824 Bytes = 1 GigaByte (GB)
So with a memory size of 8 GB, you could hold approximately 2,285 mp3s at 3.5 MB each. That's pretty good.

ipod touch. once you first get it there isnt plenty which you're able to do on it different than surf the information superhighway purchase songs watch video clips on youtube and hear music. yet thats plenty. you'll be able to make it extra like an iphone by potential of doing something called jailbreaking it which provides it waayy extra issues you're able to do on it. You cant do virtually as many stuff on the zune and the zunes are thicker and arnt as stable often. the zune is a very undesirable opponent for the ipods. So choose for the ipod touch
