So far we have had no luck. my husband has a son from a previous marriage and i from a previous relationship. so we know that we are able to have kids. my daughter is 9 and his son is 4. I would like to know what goes one when you talk to your dr. about not being able to conceive i'm afraid to go to the dr and find out that i can't conceive. my husband and i dont have a lot of money to spend on all kinds of treatments. so any help would be appreciated.

Hi
First of all, just know that there are so many miracles performed every day to help people who are having a hard time, so never think that the doctor would just say "you can't conceive" and leave it at that.

When you go to a specialist for this, they will have you do a lot of tests. Your husband may also need to have his sperm count evaluated. Some of the tests that they have you do are (I forgot the name, but) they put a kind of dye up into your uterus and ovaries to see if you have any cysts or blockage that may prevent pregnancy. They will also do some blood tests to determine your cycles and when you tend to ovulate. There are other things too, including vaginal ultrasounds, but this is the most of what I remember.

The expense of these kind of treatments and tests can be considerable if you live in a state where fertility treatment is not by law covered by insurance. I would look into this first and foremost. I live in MA and it's considered mandated care, my insurance company HAS to pay for these treatments. NC, I know, does not have this law- I found this out because even though we're MA residents, my husband had out of BCBS of No Carolina for a while.

If you prefer to take matters into your own hands right now, I suggest an inexpensive way to help you try to more effectively conceive- if you have not already done so. Check out Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler and buy a basal thermometer. I did fertility for over 2 years with only 2 miscarriages to show for it, and using the advice of this book, I was able to conceive my daughter and now a second, so far successful pregnancy without any drugs, tests, invasive procedures and constant monitoring.

Best of luck to you.

If you have health insurance, go to a Reproductive Endocrinologist. They specialize in fertility and help couples get pregnant.....that's all they do. They'll run tests on both you and your husband and if you need treatments, have them call your insurance to see how much of it is covered so you know what your out of pocket expense will be.

I have given this advice to many people who were trying to conceive. I took my own advice too. STOP TRYING! It puts to much stress on you guys and it makes it harder. My aunt was trying to have another for 4 years and I told her to stop trying . After she finally gave up . I'm happy to say they are going to be having their baby in 7 more months. I'm telling you it worked for us . So stop stressing and just have fun right now. It will happen. BEST OF LUCK!!

Well, the first step is to determine if you are ovulating. If you have regular cycles that is a good sign. Get a thermometer and chart your basal body temps for a few cycles to make sure you are ovulating. If you find you are ovulating then get your hubby tested.

I don't think it's easier when not trying. You just aren't waiting. Waiting always seems like it takes a long time. How long were you not trying before you got pregnant with your son? Maybe years.
