Three 20-minute periods of action with two intermissions, one after the 1st and 2nd periods. If the score is tied after this, they play 5 minute overtime period. If they're still tied, they do a best-of-3 shootout. If they are STILL tied, they go to sudden-death shootout.

Hockey is played for three 20 minute periods. In case of a draw, for the regular season, there is a 5 minute overtime period with a possible shoot-out. In the playoffs, the game continues with 20 minute overtime periods until someone scores the winning goal.
Usually, the game lasts 2 and a half hours.

Regulation time is 60 minutes - plus a 5 minute overtime where they skate over time and a shootout after that if necessary. If it is a playoff game, overtimes are 20 minutes and are sudden death.
A typical game lasts 2.5 - 3 hours.
Warning - if you are watching a New Jersey Devils game, it will appear to last much, much longer than 3 hours.

NHL games are 3-20 min. periods, with a 5 min. sudden death OT. Regular season games then go to shootouts and playoffs have continuous OTs.
The league I'm in now does 3-15 min. periods, but I've seen 22 min. halfs, 24 min. halfs, and I even used to score-keep for college roller hockey that did 4-8 min. periods!

3 periods of 20 minutes, so that's 60 minutes pure play time. then there are two brakes, one of 5 minutes between 1st and 2nd period, and one of 15 minutes between 2nd and 3rd period. and then off course the game gets stopped a lot by the referee everytime someone commits an offence, everytime an icing is shot, every time the goalie freezes the puck and every time a goal is scored. and sometimes the play will be stopped for half a minute of a team requests a time out.
so the game can last quite a long time! ;)

Three 20 minute periods, but the clock stops. Overall, a game usually takes about 2 1/2 hours.

A hockey game consists of 3 - 20 minute periods. If there is a tie at the end, a five minute overtime is played. If there is still a tie after overtime, there is a shootout.

Usually Field hockey is 35 minutes each way, with 5 minutes half time, but that depends especially if an ambulance needs to be called or the umpires forget to look at their watches!!

As many others have already said, it consists of three periods of 20 minutes each, plus, in case of a tie, a 5 minutes overtime.
Please note however that the clock is stopped as soon as the play is stopped. You can thus expect 60 - 65 minutes of gameplay, but attending a game can be way more because of game stops.
