3 1/5 by 2 2/3 16/5 by 8/3 16/5 by 3/8 cross multiply..... 6/5 simplify.... 1 1/5 3 1/5 divided by 2 2/3 first you multiply the 3 by the bottom of the fraction (the 5) which is 15 then you add the number on top (the 1) and write it over 5. so 16/5 right? do the same with the other number, and you should get 8/3. now you need to flip the second number (the 8/3) because you are dividing. then you cross multipy and you should get 6/5. but simplest form measn you need to write it as 1 1/5.

You could convert it to a decimal and just divide, but that's not very elegant.
It would be 3.2 / 2.66667 = 1.1999998 or 1.2, but...
Convert each side to a lowest common denominator - in this case 15ths.
3 1/5 = 3 3/15 = 48/15.
2 2/3 = 2 10/15 = 40/15. Gives you 48/15 / 40/15
You can multiply each value by 15 and resolve down to this:
48/40.
To reduce to the smallest fraction divide each by 8 = 6/5.
In decimal, it would be 1.2.

If I read that as three and one fifth divided by two and two thirds then its four fifths divided by eight thirds. No its not - that's rubbish! its 16/5 divided by 8/3!
(16/5)/(8/3) = (16*3)/(5*8) = 6/5
is this simpler than 1 and 1/5 ?
