What does it mean in books about roles. in the story red dress what roles does the girl do.?? I have no idea what they mean by roles. help

in this case, "roles" means, "what part does it play?"

The question about the red dress is asking what part the girl plays in either the story (such as protagonist, etc.) or the roles she plays as a character (is she the town gossip, etc.)

At least, that's what I get out of it.

It's spelled rolls. They're those bulgy things around a womans waist. The red dress covers the rolls.
