I learned it in school. The grammar is annoying (the most difficult word to say in German is 'the', because it changes according to its place in the sentence and the word it refers to), but in a lot of ways it parallels English. As an American, I wish someone would have told me that everyone should learn Spanish first (it's easier and more useful) and then pick another language if they are interested, but I took German.

Learning German will teach you so much about grammar that it will actually make your English better.

I speak German., and no the language is not at all difficult to learn. So much of our English derived from German... The grammatics are the hardest part,.

Go for it, is a fun language!

i am from germany and i think the german grammar is quite difficult compared with english (for example: there are 3 different meanings of "the" in german). there are also a lot of accent. so i don't think it's very easy to learn but there are a lot of words that are translated par for par from english to german and it's a really good language for insulting words ^^ (i think "giftzwerg" sounds better than "spiteful little bugger/ nasty bit of work")
