The political terms "liberal" and "conservative" have a bunch of connotations that come with. I'm politically liberal, but conservative financially (budgeting!!!) and in my personal social/romantic values. My sister, on the other hand, is politically conservative, but is financially liberal (loves to spend) and more socially/sexually "liberated."

Yeah, your sister sounds more free than you. Conservatives believe in total freedom, and free people are happier. I find most liberal types are unhappy and feel guilty if they are happy. It's a very depressing way to live.

Let loose, enjoy life. Life is too short to worry so much. Watching your finances is just common sense, but don't restrict your freedom at the cost of your happiness.

Yes, well this just demonstrates that most people end up being a contradiction in terms. Can you call that a paradox? Only if the opposite is true obviously. As to whether liberal conservatism can be embraced by those conservatives who are more liberal than actually conservative, I think, is something that should be debated liberally in a conservatory manner.

so in your book GW Bush would be financially liberal because he spends freely and runs up the deficit

and Clinton would be conservative because he ran the government at a surplus?

I think many people would do well to read an economics book so they could tell the difference between government spending that is an investment and improves the economy and the welfare of the people
and the spending that does not last, and hurts the economy

That's quite a paradox. Very deep, man. Is there a question involved?

Variety is a good thing, eh? I'm liberal in almost everything - my brother is conservative in almost everything, yet we almost never argue.....
