OUR CAPITALIST SYSTEM: In our system we tend to believe that the more we have the better we are. In other systems, the person is rated by their social interactions. In our system we put a person on a pedestal if they have a lot of (things).
We seek to be like this person, HAVE A LOT OF THINGS. This is Materialism at it finest.

Good question. In one word I'd say: malcontentedness. Persons who are materialistic will never be content with what they have and will always want to acquire more. Materialistic people have an improper view of money and things.
First John 2:15-17 is about how Christians are not to love "the world", and that starts with our eyes. Lust for money, flesh, and anything humans might want is a very powerful motivator toward reaching out to get material things. Covetousness and love of money (and what money can buy) go hand in hand with materialism.

I think its from lack of discipline in oneself, just saying i want this or that... or maybe it originates from childhood, well... some people feel like or in occasions never get what they want as a child so it causes materialism when they grow up.... or simply just personal malice, wanting to be better than anyone through materials....

Medialism..Whatever you see on TV or in Magazines, you want it. That's the number 1 cause of Materialism. Obviously, if you don't see those celebrities with the things you want, you will only buy what you NEED and not what you WANT.

The belief that it can solve all your problems. Then, when it doesn't, you wrongly believe that it is because you haven't had enough of it, so you consume some more. Sadly also, it seems to be a measure of success in our society, admired by those who have less than you.
By the way, it wasn't Maggie Thatcher. Labours benefit culture has more to do with it.

Hi. I think you will find its a combination of what the media want to sell against what you really need. . Only have what you need, if others do not like it (not trendy), ignore them. They are sadly stereotyped, brainwashed, and doomed to spend the rest of their lives paying for the latest unused, useless and needless piece of junk. My advice is, if you will not continue to use it in 6 months time, you do not need it. Hope this helps.
