Whats movies are apropriate?

Of course "Boyz in the Hood" is one of my favorate's but there will be children there and this movie contians too much adult subject matter.

So what other movies would be approriate to show to a crowd without too much adult content but represent african americans contributions to cinima?

Any help would be much appriciated.

You may want to make a flier, "Suggested Further Viewing"!

I love a musical with an all-black cast from 1943, "Stormy Weather," with Lena Horne, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Cab Calloway and his band, Katherine Dunham ("the Queen Mother of Black Dance") with her troupe, Thomas "Fats" Waller, The Nicholas Brothers (Fayard & Harold) (an absolute showstopper number), and Dooley Wilson (of "Casablanca" fame).

You have a good lineup already. I'm not familiar with "Sparkle," but good to have a picture from a third time period. "Porgy and Bess" gets mixed reviews at Netflix (not so at IMdB), but not that many people have seen it. It was really meant for the big screen (shot in 70mm), so I have to wonder, what format would you have it in?

If it were me, I'd take Lena Horne over Irene Cara. As a choice, I mean.

My favorite "black-themed" movie is Fresh (1994), directed by Boaz Yakin. It does have adult themes, but the main character is a boy. It contains a bit about drugs, sex and violence, but it doesn't glorify it.

You're going to have a tough time finding a kid-friendly movie, but good luck.

Since "Superfly" is not really appropriate (Ron O'neil rules!), maybe "The Inkwell" or "Jason's Lyric".
