That is a concept that has plagued people for mellenia. Ask this- What is the biggest change in numbers you can imagine? Maybe making the leap from 1 to 1,000,000,000 is a large change. But imagine 0 to 1. from nothing to something, from non-existence to existence. Is is almost impossible to even begin to imagine nothing, because things have always been here as far as we know and can experience. So to try to imagine nothing is really hard, and pretty much impossible. Just keep trying to imagine it and think about it. Also this-"nothing" is a "something" because it IS nothing. A nothing should NOT be. You cant HAVE nothing or there can't BE nothing because then the nothing exists, and contradicts itself with its own existence/non-existence.

How can there ever have been nothing? That would mean something came into existence not just from nothing, but into that which it came was also nothing. It is an impossibility!!!! The only answer is that there was never nothing and always something which is possible if you consider that the center of a black hole may be completely devoid of time thus enabling whatever existed therein to never have a beginning or an end.

According to Stephen Hawkings' A Brief History of Time, and also according to Albert Einstein, before the Big Bang there existed what is called as a "SINGULARITY". It is like the centre of a black hole, where "matter exists in infinitely high density and at the same time, infinitely less volume". Practically, NOTHING including light could escape a singularity.
Now this was in the words of Physics as far as I know. In my observation, I would call NOTHING as simply vacuum. The entire universe which now has matter in a scattered form, was at some point of time before the Big Bang compressed into a singularity. And the rest was simply what we call vacuum. So we have to accept that NOTHING exists in vacuum, or NOTHING is vacuum itself.
For further reference you can or rather you have to consult, A Brief History of Time, by Stephen Hawkings.
Thanking you.

Excellent Question!!
I think to get to an answer, we need to first understand what is something, anything or for that matter everything.
How do we know that there is something, anything or everything? We know it either by seeing it, feeling it by touching it, hearing it, smelling it or tasting it. Basically using one of the five senses. If all the five senses are taken away from a person, there will be nothing left for him/her. And if all the senses are taken away from everyone there will be nothing left, atleast from the perspective of human beings.

Nothing is everything that is not.If there is nothing then there is nothing eles,if there is something it is not nothing In referance to life, one can not experience nothing because you are never truely without, because before the big bang was nothing, which was God, and being made in the image of God we have experienced that nothing and longed for more than nothing,so don't worry to much about nothing for it is just that.Nothing

A huge absence.
When in "The Neverending Story" Atreyu asked that, Humork the Wolf servant of the Nothing answered that it is an emptiness that is left.

Nothing is what is in a vacuum... a true vacuum where are particles are drawn out. Example: The space in a jar once all air and other matter is removed.

Absolutely nothing...The Bible says that the world was void and without form...nothing was there and then God spoke and things started to happen. Read Bible Genesis chapter 1-3. You might become captivated and go further.

If we can deepen the perception a little beyond looking for it as just an opposite of 'some....thing', then it would take us to that thing which is 'nothing' like anything we can think of as something !

My father posed this question to me when I was eight years old. The answer is there is no nothing without something and vice versa. There is no good without evil, no right without wrong
