It's a combination of helping you learn the subject, seeing how much you are capable of doing on your own when the teacher is not helping you and also to teach you how to take responsibility for work and working under a deadline. There's lots more to giving you homework than just being mean. :)

to get you used to self discipline, and responsibility,since you will need to be self disciplined and responsible to do well in life.
Also so you can have the oppurtunity to think about what you learned in school without 20-30 other kids in the room distracting you.
It helps the material she is teaching to sink into your brain and stay there.
Homework sucks, but even after graduation when you know longer attend school,you will always have work to do in some way, shape or form,even after your workday is over, so get used to it.

Because we only have so much time in the class room , homework shows if are comprehending whats taught in the class room and if you need extra help also to keep your mind on school instead of TV for a little bit

Usually to make kids lives miserable. No, really, homework is supposed to help you practice skills. Research is finding that most homework is useless however. The best homework is just to encourage students to read. Good luck with your homework and godspeed!

I really think that they give homework for the sake of giving homework. I doubt that they really want to spend hours checkin your work.
