Because, if you think about how long many of them have been alive, it's such a small slice of time compared to how long Earth has been here. They think in the small terms of what they see and hear now, and not in the macroscopic sense of what it all is.

There are multitude of reasons. The main one is ignorance. Besides they are being bombarded by the leftist media with false information supplied by a multitude of preconceptual scientist. These "scientist" are on the pay roll of various governments throughout the world and their continued funding requires that they make doomsday predictions.
But ignorance is the key. It is a well established fact that the climate of the earth has changed many times and it is also known that it will likely continue to do so. And that throughout history this change has occurred without the intervention of humans. So it is unlikely that current measured changes have anything what so ever to do with human activity.
Finally there are the socialist who need some problem to solve that will serve as an excuse for the elimination of indvidual rights, "for the greater good". Something that will increase the power and authority of government. Enviromental issues are custom made for that purpose.

In a game of poker, does a bluffer really believe he has the best hand? You are presupposing that the anthropogenic global warming crowd actually believes what they are saying. There are probably many that do, but they are the weak-minded being lead by the ring leaders. The ring leaders are simply capitalists. They can see that there is an enormous amount of money that can be made on the idea that the sky is falling, and they just want their cut.

They realize a lot more than they are willing to admit. It's just that many people in the "don't worry, be happy" camp (and this includes a huge slice of the Bush Administration and our "captains of industry") have too much of their income, career and/or quality of life tied to ways of life that are destructive to our climate. It is far easier for them to claim either "not enough data," "bad science," "liberal propaganda," or "tree huggers" (I'm talking about you, Mr. O'Reilly) than to recognize that things have got to change if we are to head off a climatic disaster of biblical porportions (And yes, you Republicans out there, I am aware that there are climate change factors at work that we have no control over.) It is always easier and more comfortable to stick you head in the sand when recognizing and remedying (is that a real word?) problem will hit you in the wallet, and it seems like the wealthier you are, the less likely your are willing to sacrifice.
Well, enough of this liberal rant....hope this helped a little....have a great day...Go Colts.

funny, i always thought it was the global warming crowd that embraced science, since it is science that is telling us that the earth is indeed warming up.

"Apocalypse sells. It sells like lipstick. Why? Because it flatters our vanity."- Bruce Sterling
It feeds mankinds arrogance to think that we have such a profound effect on nature. I think the Gore Effect is nature's way of reminding us who is in charge.

Yes, there are a lot of factors. CO2 levels being one of them. And humans are producing large amounts of CO2 levels. I really don't see where the misunderstanding is.
