I want to buy a b-day gift for my husband and am trying to figure what to get. I am worried about getting an iPod and ending up stuck with one for eternity once he starts putting his CDs on the computer to load on his iPod (format issues) plus the battery issue and the short lifespan because if the battery dies you are out.
Some people suggested a Zen but they seem SO small, but I like that you can change the batteries when needed. Then the Zune still has issues I read.
Ideally I'd like something that is 4 or 8 gig and movie viewing and stuff is not important. I also want something I can get a 1gig version of for me.

Please help, I have to buy this weekend and am so confused...

Zune, here's why:
1.bigger screen
2.scratch-resistant, durable
3.feels nice in the palm of your hand, really
4.has a nice UI design (way better than ipod)
5.has wi-fi feature so you can send songs & pics to other Zunes
6.has built-in FM tuner
7.you can change the background pic for the whole menu system
8.Zune software has a subscription feature so you can download a lot for 1 price
9.can sync with the Xbox 360
10.you can view videos and some pics in landscape mode (on it’s side) so you just turn it on it’s left side (makes it great for watching videos)
11.you can get 14 day free-trial for Zune Marketplace
12.is something new and has latest technology
Try it, you'll like it!

I have a Creative Zen, and I love it. I have the Vision :M, which is a 30 gb, but they have an 8gb one, and I know someone who has one and it's really great too.
I wouldn't get an Ipod. Look at the music questions on here. It seems as if every other one says, "Ipod trouble." They have had a lot of problems.
The Zune still has a lot of problems. I've heard of a lot of people getting them and not liking them.

I even have the Zen imaginitive and prescient W 60GB, and could in no way desire yet another transportable, multimedia gadget. I even have 14 video clips/video clips/finished concert activities, 1800 songs, 289 pictures, and have not hit the 0.5 way mark yet for memory. No regulations on music downloads like Ipod. It has a geared up in mic to record memos to your self, it has a calendar, you may sync up on your pc, has an FM radio geared up in..... i will flow on. i like it.

When I was deciding which I wanted to get I went to CNET.com and look at their product reviews. I had decided to go with the creative zen V plus 4 g - I actually didn't realize how small it was but I love it; or an I-river clicks as these ones seem to have the best rating and feed back. I don't use the creative software (installed it) and use window media 11 and it sync perfectly - just remember to set your preference first or all your pictures and songs will be on your zen (All my Sims 2 photos and songs were on mine - had to delete them LOL)

Go with the Zen, I have one myself. iPod's have a reputation of being fickle and easily breakable. The iPod in general is a perfect example of something overhyped, the Zen is clearly alot! better, but, because a lot of people have an iPod other people buy it (sheep). And the Zune... I have no idea what that is lol

ok, if I were u I'd get neither of them all cuz Zune is too big to me, Creative zen is a big BIG rip off of the iPod, and the ipod has to many bugs. I'd get the Archos because it has a built in speaker and 30 gigs(or more) of internal memory and it is a multimedia player, and it should fit all formats of music. it costs about as much as an ipod but it's better than one. so if I was u, I'd get the Archos(look up Archos on amazon or somethin)

you want video and music? make up your mind. 1,4 or 8 gb makes a differences in price and quality.

wait for the next gen of ipod, it's coming out later this year. they have improved a lot on battery issues through many generations.

Zune is dying, it's too late and it's not even making a dent in the market.

Zen and other company don't even come close as a competitor to ipod.

what you need is accept the fact that electronics only have a life of around 2-3 years and they'll be outdated.

ipod nano is the best. all the rest have more flaw and ipod is more user friendl.
ps. if you format your computer you can alway save the song to the ipod before you format the computer and just transfer it
