I ran out of space in my first question and would like to continue here with clerical/secretarial interview questions.

Your boss gives you a project to do and wants it done asap. Another co-worker gives you something to do and says it is urgent that this is done immediately. What would you do?

Go with the boss.

Sounds like the story of my working life-everybody has an emergency, don't they? The only strategy you have is to tell the second person who asks for ASAP that the boss also gave you a project that needs to be done ASAP. Perhaps the three of you can discuss this and decide which task needs to be done first? Since this is an interview question, follow up the answer with a discussion on importance of clear communication in the office. When people communicate well, everyone achieves their goals in an efficient, cooperative matter.

At any job, your boss is the person you definitely want to keep happy. In this situation, I would tell my co-worker that my boss already has me working on an important project, but I will get to the next project as soon as I can. If my co-worker does not understand that, then I would advise them to speak to my boss about it. This way, I can still accomplish everything without confusion or discrepancies.

You tell your co-worker that your boss gave you an urget project that has to be done first, lets face it the boss is the boss. If this is still a problem go to your supervisor and ask him/her to prioritise your work. If that doesn't work go to the boss and tell him you were given an urget project from so and so and ask him which is the priority. Take care Heather
