According to my OB/Gyn excess maternal body weight is the number one reason.
Followed by an incorrect conception date.
Determining exact time of gestation is not concrete unless you know positively the day the baby was conceived. Until the baby is born it is just an assumption based on facts (your ovulation for one) but the age of the fetus could be off by up to 3 weeks.

The ultrasound technician measures the baby and based on the averages, they can either agree or disagree with what the doctor has determined to be the baby's age/due date based on your LMP. Causes of being incorrect would probably just be actual fact of your baby being smaller or larger than "average" for 9 weeks. Typically errors if any are a matter of a few days difference anyway.

The earlier they are done the more accurate they are likely to be. The tech just marks each end of the baby, the computations are done by the machine. At least with the US machines they used for every US i've ever had. Your dates might be just off from conception. Remember as well, that the day yopu conceived ytou are already 2 weeks. So if they US says 9 wks then you;ve been PG for 7.

honestly at 9 weeks your baby is only going to be about 2-4 cm long anyway... very very hard to judge, and would only be possible through the use of ultrasound. Any measurements at that point in time are simply rough measures. Be patient, your baby is growing at an amazing rate, and soon enough you will begin to feel the first "flutters" of your baby moving! Congratulations!

With my final being pregnant i grew to become into required to have approximately 20 ultrasounds commencing at 2 weeks. by skill of 9 weeks they have been waiting to work out the heart beat, and the infant had stepped forward previous the sac degree. Ultrasounds are frequently fairly precise at telling how a techniques alongside you're yet are no longer suitable. I had my infant by using IVF so we knew the precise day the embryos have been planted and the ultrasound advised me that i grew to become into 2 weeks in the back of that date, the advised yet another female that had the IVF a similar day that she grew to become into each and every week farther forward, so as that they have got been close yet no longer precise. At this degree the ultrasound should not be waiting to look like lots to you yet will tell the docs alot. i grew to become into pregnant with twins yet found out at my 9 week ultrasound that between the babys grew to become into turning out to be abnormally and does no longer stay to tell the story, so there is quite some innovations the docs are waiting to acquire. sturdy success with the ultrasound.

You need to add some more detail..like what is incorrect, the size, gestational age..maybe the age is off bc you conceived at a different date. Plus those US are sometimes off by a week or 2. remember they are professionals and do this every day.

Maybe the baby is moving too much to get a good view. Normally though doctors and US techs are pretty well trained. If your doctor is concerned as you are maybe ask for another US.
