your monitor could be damaged, if you can't see absolutely nothing. You can try entering to the bios, or in safe mode, pressing F8 , you should see a menu that indicates which way you want to start. Also you should check your connections, or your graphic card, it could be damaged too, so you have to be sure if your MONITOR or your GRAPHIC card is damaged, try to connect your monitor on another PC.

I have had XP home, since I came onto the internet, when The Acer monitor went wrong, I tried to use another older monitor, which works with Windows 98, it wouldn't work at all well with it.
So I can accept that some older monitors can't work with Windows XP or later versions.
As the same thing is happening with the replacement monitor, it might be a fault where the computer feeds the monitor, a poor connection. The noises are what the computer makles, that seems to be working okay.
Try putting a normal three pin plug, with 3amp fuse onto the monitor, and connect it to a normal socket, rather than drawing it's power from the computer, that would bypass any error in feeding the power through the computer.
Other than that I cannot help.

I'm assuming your monitor is switched on and there is a little green light by the power button. Is it a crt (big and heavy) or a tft (thin and flat.)
Also check the brightness, there should be little buttons that configure your monitor at the bottom of the frame around the screen.
Disconnect and reconnect the vga cable, that's the one that goes from the computer to the monitor and carries the picture signal. Some computers also draw their power from the computer and the plug will look a lot like the power cable for the computer. This is not recommended.
If none of this works, you may need to re-install your video card driver or your monitor driver, leave that to someone with some experience.
If none of that works, either your monitor or your video card need to be replaced.

As you have said here that, you change the monitor also and check all the cables are right inside. If you are using AGP or PCI Graphics card than pliz press the card in board side. Check your CMOS battery also, it might be discharge in the motherboard. Try to replace with the new CMOS battery. Diplay problem is not by virus. computer virus is a software, it doesn't affect harware.

Two things, Check for a update from the company that made your video card.
A lot of times this happens when you upgrade over a fresh install, especially if you have a ton of nocompatible software. I don't think your video card is compatible to XP. I bet if you went back to 2000 it will run like a champ.
