There is no law against consuming alcohol while pregnant in Canada.
It is simply a suggestion to abstain from alcohol due to the possibility of birth defects and developmental issues associated with drinking while pregnant.

There is no law per say. They warn against it.

On February 1, 2005, Bill 43, Sandy's Law came into effect in Ontario. This law will require all beer stores, liquor stores, wine stores and establishments serving beer, wine or liquor to post specific warning signs about the risks of alcohol use in pregnancy.

Sandy's Law is named after Prince Edward- Hastings MPP Ernie Parson's 25 year old adopted son, who died as a result of a brain aneurysm that doctors said was caused by malformed blood vessels - a result of his mother's drinking of alcohol during pregnancy.

Some time ago, Canada's Supreme Court ruled that a fetus is not a person under the law, so there is no law against drinking alcohol while pregnant, because there is no person against which to commit a crime.

that's no longer a criminal offense to drink together as pregnant. A bartender might refuse to serve somebody who's overly intoxicated, yet he can not refuse to serve a pregnant female, only because of the fact she's pregnant. This grew to become into tried, and in spite of the bartender's stable-intentions, he grew to become into efficiently sued. An occasional drink for the period of being pregnant has no longer been shown to reason any volatile outcomes.

The state shouldn't need a law to tell you what everyone already knows -- DRINKING DURING PREGNANCY IS A HUGE NO-NO UNLESS YOU PURPOSELY INTEND TO HARM YOUR CHILD.

Disgusting. If you are the pregnant party, you should not even CONSIDER drinking while pregnant. Women who drink while pregnant should automatically have their child taken away, as they clearly don't give a crap about anything but their own pleasure.

There is no such law. They cannot put you in jail for drinking while pregnant, they can't fine you or anything. They can just put signs and show commercials.. give people warning of consequences that can happen.. but they can't do anything to you if you do.

As far as i know they can't do anything to you but before you drink you should think about the affects on your baby.
