Lighten up means to be happy and not to worry or get sad. Sadness is often related to darkness and happiness relates to sunshine and light.

Go with the flow means to not try to swim against current beliefs. Some people think this is an extremely incorrect axiom but others think it is the way to live. Just go along with what everyone else is doing and don't fight the trends. What do you think? Should you do what the majority of people are doing or should you rebell and question authority? Lots of people believe we should just go along to get along but I don't think that is really a popular belief any more.

Relax and have fun just means not to take things too seriously or worry about it. In the United States, people believe that if you worry too much about something the job becomes more difficult to handle and it is best not to look at problems straight on. Relaxing in the face of extreme difficulty is considered the correct way to deal with life.

None of these axioms really mean to accept people...it just means not to take problems to seriously or worry too much in life. They all really mean...Don't worry, Be happy and I can agree with that as life is to short to spend most of it unhappy and worried.

If somebody is complaining constantly or seeing the worst possible case scenario for everything then one would say 'lighten up'.

It means: lift your mood. Bad moods are associated with being down in the dumps, heavy or low.
