I work somewhere that was in serious need of office help. Now I have a better position offered to me and I will need to quit after only 3 months. I think my current boss will hit the roof. Any suggestions? I'm thinking I should just be honest, but should I go above her and just inform the HR department?

By the way this new job is $15,000 more a year!

Be honest - make sure everyone knows. Tell them you enjoyed working there, and you are sorry that leaving will inconvenience them, but you have been offered a much better position - better wages, and I assume better working conditions.

Know what you will do if they do offer you more money or a better job. But you do have to look out for yourself, so do it openly and honestly and with integrity.

Good luck.

Write a letter of resignation thanking them for the opportunity given to you, but explaining that a better offer has come up.
Offer them a 2 week notice to find a suitable replacement. And give this to your immediate supervisor so it is not a surprise to them when HR comes along.

Be polite and go to your supervisor first. Hand in a written resignation. I'm sure they'll be upset because they hired you in good faith and you've not even made it 3 months before you're ditching them. Not even through your training period and now they have to go through the hassle of hiring and training someone else.

I'd not ever expect to use them as a reference either. Shows lack of staying power if you de-camp after such a short time.

Just tell them the truth. Say, "I got offered a better position somewhere else." I wouldn't stay, (unless they gave me one hell of a pay raise). But if you do leave just tell your boss and HR. They can't make you stay.
