As a gay man why would I be offended when a gay person I don't know says they hate straight people?

I do feel a little offended. I have no problem with somebody hating bigots, idiots, and other people of that sort, but when someone makes a blanket statement about hating a group of people, regardless of whether they're the celebrated majority or the often-oppressed minority, I get scared. That sort of retaliatory thinking won't get anyone anywhere.

Yes I would be offended. Whilst I understand that, having been put upon by straight people and cursed and spurned for being gay, to reciprocate will only reflect badly on other gays.

Nope, that person does not represent the LGBT community as a whole. Hes an individual with his own opinions. . .If he doesnt like straight people thats his problem... Dont be offended. . .

Yeah I do kind of get offended, because they are lowering themselves to the same level as the people who hate gays.

Of course. Hate is a horrible emotion.
However, I have never, ever in my years, heard an LGBT person say this. I have heard hundreds, if not thousands, of straight people say it in the other direction. So it is clear to me who needs to change. {Not you, it sounds like. :o) }

Anytime someone says "I hate ____ people", I'm offended if I fit into that category and tell them to go F themselves.
If I don't fit into that category, I still tell the close minded jerk the same thing.

I do, every time I'm called F*G, Qu**r, A**licker etc., or I am attacked physically by straight people. It is unfortunate that you had to hear that but please try to understand that they probably have had to put up with the crap all gays face. It hardens us to be more wary of straights. Just is the way it is.......unfortunately.
