Going to completion is an irreversible reaction. Equilibrium can go back and forth depending on other factors.

A reaction goes to completion if the products are more stable than the reactants and the energy flows toward completion.
A reaction that gives off a great deal of energy will not go back.

A reaction in equilibrium can go either way. The energy is nearly the same on each side and it goes back and forth forming product and reactants.

When a reaction is in equilibrium, both the reactants and the products are there in the media.
But in a "completing" reaction there's only the products and some of the reactants (excluding the limiting factor of the reaction).

the first one has not any more starting material, the second one could contain some starting material and product in different %, or could be that there are 2 products that could react and switch themselves but keeping always the same % of the two.
