In life, many of us have seemed to develop the mindset that we will all have a happily ever after..Why?
Is there any psychologist who has written on this?
Why do we need a get-a-way?

I don't think anyone expects that they'll be happy 100% of the time.

But it's a natural human condition to strive for happiness. If we achieve our goals, it's natural to set new, higher goals. And we say "if I can reach these goals, I'll be happy". But in reality, it's not the achieving the goals that's important, it's setting the goals and striving for them.

If you stop striving for goals, you become stagnant.

I agree with this, many people (including me) go through a dissapointment phase in their 20's when they realise that the real world is more difficult than they thought it would be.

It could be hollywood or the media. Look who is glamorized in the media - the mega ultra rich (Bill Gates, Trump, etc) and the mega ultra rich who do very little ( Lindsey Lohan ) or even nothing at all ( Paris Hilton ) to deserve it.

You never see the guy who works 40 hour weeks for $50,000 a year to raise 2 kids glamourized in any way at all.

An interesting question, and it starts to beg the question, "what is false" and what is "unreasonably rosy" beyond a measure of social judgement?

"Expectation" resulting in disappointment would suggest that the problem is in expecting.. Would we really be better off, expecting nothing and striving for nothing?

I think the answer lies in finding a healthy "thought" system, and living true to your sensibilities and inclinations. Our thoughts create our dreams, our thoughts PLUS our actions and our belief systems create our reality. I would rather strive for seeing things as they are and as they have the potential to be, than to be trying to conform to someone else's interpretation of my expectations.

It is okay to expect, it is okay to be different than others. Those able to see life through a lens of rose colored glasses could be said to have a stronger sense of optimism or resiliency, but the external eye might view that as unrealistic, or whistling in the dark to keep scary things away. Be true to your view and try to see things as they are, but with a healthy view that our thoughts often create a self fulfilling prophesy, so make sure what you are asserting is something you want. :D

Yes, we all need a get-a-way and a hope for tomorrow. There is so much hurt and pain in the world, it is sometimes impossible to live here and still have a positive outlook. If you see your glass as half full rather than half empty, you are making a good life for yourself and the others who are in your life too.

That is just who we are in life and we all need an extra kick to succeed in life.
