Well we all get the blues. My problem is that when I feel sad I can usually think of a reason! Or several!

It may be S.A.D. seasonal affective disorder if you're in a wintry climate as I am. A lot of people (like me) struggle through a sense of gloom in winter because we don't get enough sunlight. Take vitamin D, try to get outdoors a little bit, bundle up for a walk. Take multivitamins as well & B complex helps with stress. If you take good care of yourself physically (getting enough rest, exercise & eating healthy) it's half the battle. Most people don't do that. Not getting exercise & eating junk food can make you feel like crap.

But if it's not the weather or your physical health or any situation in your life that you can pinpoint, you may just be in a rut. Do something you enjoy to help pick you up. Watch a comedy. Do something fun. Make a list of things to be happy about. If you find you're not enjoying anything you may suffer from depression. Talk to your doctor about options. Or just talk to someone. Talking helps. Or write it down. Sometimes just getting your feelings out in some way is therapeutic (hell it works for me, I've written about 200 songs in the past few years. I write most of them when I'm feeling blue!)

Remember you are not alone. A lot of us feel the same way. It will get better. Just decide to love yourself & be happy & then try your best. Do things that are fun & relaxing & that may help. I like a bubble bath with candlelight & watching Seinfeld. Or snuggling with my cat. Whatever works for you.

This is very normal things in an emotionally normal person. I believe there are things that influence us deeply at a subconscious level, things that can make us feel deeply unhappy and sad. But this does not mean that those things are always bad; they can be dream like realisations taking place within. We all aspire to be what we want to be, we yearn to find people we love, we long to go places where we always wished to go. All these longings, yearning, wishes and desires, we might forget in the humdrum of this life, but they do not forget us. There could be occasion and incidents apparently irrelevant and insignificant but bearing very close links to our inhibitions and inner feelings.

Most often sadness proves to be just a prelude to happy moments; to feel sad is great because this is when we are most genuine and in touch with something powerful enough to make us keep its company. The most frightening thing is emotional chaos, for this is where people do most frightening things. When we are emotionally blank we feel noting but insignificance, which is very hard to bear.

If you attend to your sadness you will realise that it is in fact not very different from being happy; it is no doubt a lively state of mind. Stay with yourself in the hours of sadness and you will remember yourself in happy times; give yourself your company as your own best friend. Celebrate your sorrows as well as you celebrate your delights. And then you will never be sad … celebrate sadness in order never to be sad … is this paradoxical? Perhaps not, you will be sad but in a different and more friendly way.

Sad or pensive... our thoughts can drag us down sometimes but there are ways to combat this. just as happiness is a state of mind, so is sadness.
In these times when all we want to do is to curl up and feel sad for ourselves is exactly the time we should be doing differently. I defy you to feel sad if you go for a brisk walk, with your head up and shoulders back and the biggest, widest open smile on your face. Don't drop that smile. Even start laughing if you can - start laughing at the fact that if people saw you laughing they'd think you were nuts!!!
Do it now. Try it. Sit up. Head up. Shoulders back. And laugh, and laugh and laugh. And now just smile....keep that smile on your face.........and remember you're a beautiful person who can offer so much love to other people.
Try answering others questions to make them feel better about themselves.

It's because you want to feel sad during those times. Examine carefully and this truth will become quite clear to you. We do have a psychological need to feel sad at times. Perhaps to enhance enjoyment of joys.

hi there

hope you feel better soon. i use to feel sad and down and discovered i had depression. have you any other syptoms???
if it keeps happening you need to try and see if there are certain things that trigger the sad feeling
