seek a local therapist who can help, you'll need to pay but you could be waiting forever for a counseller on the NHS, i gave up waiting after a month as i couldn't handle my depression, search online for it and you will find plenty of places, or just speak to close friends or anyone who will listen, i would listen as well if you like.

hey,
I was anorexic and bulimic...it can and does happen and its on my medical notes.
specialist counselling does often have a waiting list and can sometimes take many many months, especially if you want it on the NHS. There are many organisations around that can offer support including the eating disorders association (uk website down until friday) please try contacting one of these. if you do a search on the inernet you can find lots of resources.
I don't know what your beliefs are but can I recommend mercy ministries as well if thats any help because they are good. you need to get some good strong support. Tell you GP how desperate you are as sometimes they can put an emergency referral through for you which will makes things happen quicker.
feel free to contact me if you need more help. thinking of you.

Can you see another GP and explain to them that you need counselling straight away. Write down everything you are feeling and show this to the GP, get a trusted friend or relative to go in with you for support and also to emphasize to the GP how important it is that you see a counseller straight away. Don't tkae no for an answer, it's your life not theirs so be pushy with them. I wish you the very best of luck !

Oh hun - I'm so sorry. But well done for recognising you have a problem - that is often the most important step in getting better. I'm amazed at your doctor for not acting - go back to see her and really put your foot down - you need help and it is her job to make sure you get it. If necessary change doctors. Don't give up - counselling could really help you. But at the same time - don't forget that a lot of the work in getting better is on your part - you know that you have a problem, and that's good, so start trying to make it right. People I know have found doing things like yoga, aromatherapy and things like that helpful by putting them back in touch with their body and it's needs. And don't forget the people around you - your friends and family. Talk to them - they can give you support that will give you the strength you need. Good luck.

I found a link to a website that may help you. http://www.freeofbulimia.com/
Also, check out Yahoo groups and places like Myspace Groups for groups geared towards eating disorder recovery. While these groups may not be exactly what you are needing at the moment, they will put you in touch with others going through the same thing you are. These people will have contacts and ideas of places local to you that offer one on one and group therapy. Just be sure you are looking into a group that is for RECOVERY and not for ProAna/ProMia.
Above all, know that you have taken the 1st step by admitting you are sick and need help to get better. This is a good step for you!

Check out the net for a local group, we have one in local to us and they are charity based, you have made the first step in acknowledging the problem. Counselling in the UK for what ever the problem is notoriously long winded I had to go onto a waiting list, a local support group is probably a better option as they will have proffessionals and other sufferers able to support you and get you the counsel you need.
Good Luck

How can you be both? One doesn't eat at all, the other binges and then is sick. Either you eat hardly anything or too much, you can't do both.
Maybe your doctor isn't taking you seriously, they would surely have said the above to you otherwise as it obvious you can't be both. Can you see another doctor at your practice and tell them how you feel and that you don't think your other doctor understands properly how to deal with it? If you are serious that you want help, you should see someone else about it so that they can refer you for help.
