i am 31 weeks pregnant... I had to go get a ultrasound today because i have been having a lot of pain constantly on my right side. Well i was looking @ the screen and as she was looking @ my organs and everything there is a whole bunch of like red and blue lights and stuff in certain spots on the screen. What are those? does anyone know?

The red and blue lights on the ultrasound screen show your blood flow. :)

red and blue lights?

I've had a multitude (I'm sure more than 50) of ultrasounds in my time due to infertility, and I've never seen red and blue on the screen...Its always been blk & wht and now these new ones are more of a sepia tone, yellow and blk.
What kind of ultrasound are they using?
Ultrasounds don't show anything other than mass, which is determined by the sound waves bouncing off of mass or the lack there of. What you were seeing doesn't make sense, unless the machine was having technical difficulty or they were using something other than an "ultrasound" unit.
Or maybe the tech had highlighted certain points that they wanted the doctor to take a special look at...either way, they should have explained what they were doing and what they were looking for.
I've never had a tech not explain what they were seeing or highlighting while they were scanning my abdomen.

That sounds like an echo cardiogram that measures blood flow in and out of the heart chambers. It might be either yours or the babies. I had an amnio during my pregnancy that showed my daughter had Down's Syndrome. Since 50% of babies with DS have major heart defects, my OB had me see a pediatric cardiologist for fetal echo cardiograms. I had 4 of them when I was pregnant. It's very similar to an ultrasound, but then there are blue and red flashing colors on the screen. One color represents blood flow into the heart, the other color is blood flow out of the heart. If you were having problems, maybe they wanted to check your's or the baby's heart.

They were probably checking to see how your placenta is doing. They most likely didn't have the red and blue and there for the baby's 20 weeks ultrasound but that's because all the red and blue is for blood flow. They use it to see how the blood is flowing.Nothing to be scared about.I hope all turns out well.
