Are u still trying to get in?
Usually the update is madatory which means u have to download the latest version if u want to play otherwise the program won't work. (the last a couple days they were updating frequently, it is annoying.)
If u are concerned, u can always go directly to second life web site and download the latest version from there. Uninstall your old version and install the new one then
Good luck

This sounds like a program trying to connect to the net it is not a download dont allow it and see if everything works ok if so try runing a spyware remover and see what it says.

Adaware and spybot are the ones I would recommend

Freeware version of adaware.

Most likely it is ok. If you are going to use Second Life you are going to have to update it and allow it. You can always just grant access once.

go to majorgeeks.com
download avg for virus
download ad-aware for spyware
both are free and good
