Gawain has to find the Green Knight because he said he would, back when the GK arrived at Camelot and issued his challenge. That was the deal.

He has to find the green knight because he needs his assistance in overcoming the Kittens of Irshwin's Unstoppable Rebel Force. It is a very difficult journey, fraught with the dangers of Comedic Box Turtles and Suicidal Cottontails. I'd carry a big stick....

no need to google wiki. if you click the arrowhead beside yahoo in the search the web box it exposes the link to wiki search.
