I just started on YA and find that there are so many married / committed people contemplating cheating, actually cheating, or have cheated/ Where have the morals of people gone today? Why is it okay to hurt the one you love? What happened to working things out, even the hard things. Can someone help me out here?

There are so many contributing factors as to why more and more people are cheating nowadays.
Lack of morals in my eyes is the #1 reason.
More women out in the work force.
Society accepts cheating or views it as "normal."
People just don't want to take the time to work things out.
Technology has made it easier for men and women to communicate more freely.
It seems like it has gone from, "treat others as you would like to be treated", to , "do onto others before they do onto you"

My point of view on this is that there is three types of marriages the "true love" then desire marriage and the people that just want to leave with someone. When you get married because you truly love them you will work anyting and everything. The problem is that when the love is no longer there or one of the two people no longer feels the same way as the first time they got married then the other person start to feel the change. Then all of the important days get forgotten and making each other happy. So when that other special someone come's along the spark of love gets lighthed up again and that is when the cheating feelings arise because that other person is getting nourish what he/she is missing at home. Its not ok to hurt the other person, but when there is no love anymore hurt is the least that counts.

This is not okay at all and even contemplating or thinking about it is wrong.... It is NOT okay to hurt the one that you love at all.. How would we like it if our spouses cheated on us or hurt us? Morals have gone down the tube today because people are selfish and self centered and they are not selfless and kind. I totally agree that people should work hard to work things out... I love this question... Thanks for asking.... I commend you for this. More people should think like you do.

I agree with you, but in todays day and age, many things have changed so drastically, with the internet, with more freedom, people are having sex younger and younger, and many morals have gone down the tubes. I am not saying that 20-30 years ago, there were no problems, but not like today. There are still many people out there with good morals and good intentions, sometimes hard to find, but they do exist???

If people are here commenting on their cheating/being cheated history it could be seen as if there's something that bothers them (especially those on the fun side). Anonimity encourages honesty so that I'd rather say that Yahoo Answers shows how bad a thing cheating is. I'd even go further to say that what we're saying on this site is a far more honest generation coming out asking for their wounds to be healed.

I don't even think of it as a morality issue: it's a functional problem, IMO.

I mean, how can people behave as if there are no consequences for their actions, when any thinking person would realize there are serious consequences and problems that come about due to this kind of behavior? People get hurt this way. What the heck?

In each of my relationships. I would never cheat on the person, that I vow to love. All people are not the same in thoughts and deeds and everyone is looking for something to be fulfilled. Different stokes for different folks, as the saying goes. Its never ok to hurt the one you love.

I think people just don't want to do the hard work that is required to have a good marriage. I could never do anything knowingly that would hurt the man I love, not ever.

I don't agree with people cheating if you don't want to deal with the commitment then don't get married
