It depends on what that one cigarette is...is it a clove, menthol, a long 120, or an unfiltered....
If it's just a regular 100 or light, low tar, and filtered and you're just smoking 1 a day, it's probably not going to hurt you, but it would be a good idea to detox yourself with fresh air and green tea. Over time our lung cells are exhausted with constantly having to reproduce good cells because toxins and other harmful poisons in our environment and health habits destroy our cells and sometimes we lose that battle and cancer forms. Ask anyone who is suffering from enphasema (spelling?), lung cancer, or anyone who's watched helplessly as their loved one died of this nasty disease and they'll tell you don't smoke anything ever, but most of these people smoked a lot more than 365 cigarettes a year.
There's also the personal hygiene to consider, smoking even once a day, the smoke gets on your hands finger face teeth hair clothing not to mention 5 minutes or so of polluting the air, etc... If it's not something you feel I have to do this or I'll go nutz then you should probably refrain and find something else more healthy or creative to do with the time you would have spent smoking like do situps for 5 min instead and walk away healthier with a six pack :-) Good luck.

No, not really, I smoke one kretek (clove cigarette) a day. I quit smoking camels about 5 years ago. I only smoked for 7 years. Because I was a teen just doing it to look cool I did not inhale. Actually I do not inhale the kretek smoke. I just like the taste. If there were a tea lik that without tobacco I would drink it. I suppose chai is the closest. Overall, no I think you are fine as long as you get regular check-ups. However, if you have the cancer gene or any other gene that causes health problem you could be at risk anyway. That is why getting physicals every year is the best thing to do.

This depends on your physiology. Some people are far more susceptible to the harmful effect of smoking than others. If you have an allergy to anything in the cigarette then one cigarette could potentially kill you, or start a string of mutated cells (cancer).
There is no one right answer to this question, but for most of the population it takes a while of smoking to have any long lasting health effects. You're best off to just not smoke at all.

yes, but it is an improvement from before if you were smoking more than that. not a wise decision if you have not done it before. that sounds a little obvious, but true. just as with any drug, it could take over your self will-power, unless you get a doctor's help to stop it altogether. it is easier to simply not start. it can damage your lungs and make sports and exercising harder than if you are your healthy, great self. have you ever tried breathing through a really thin straw? it is like that. actually, the "straw" becomes thinner as you smoke more. if it is not all that bad, try jumping up and down for a couple of minutes, but holding your nose and breathing through a straw in your mouth.
also this applies to all drugs (including alcohol and tobacco):
--> the first high you get is the highest. after that, trying to achieve the same high requires more and more of that drug. you reach the point where you depend on drugs, just to feel normal, because once addicted, you feel terrible without it. this leads to overdoses and crashes(not the car, but the emotions). then experimenting with all kinds of drug involvement,...then all kinds of health difficulties, dont want to go there.
this all sounds somewhat of a stretch for "just one cigarette a day" in some peoples' opinions, but is a taste of what this direction leans towards. everyone is different, and the negative effects come in all different rates and deadlyness
but the decisions lay in your hands. i would go for an apple a day, or something healthier

ps: themselves are not the only people smokers are hurting. hundreds and thousands die from secondhand smoke everyday.

I also smoke and have on and off for 25 yrs.I have went several yrs in that time period without any.I sure hope it won't bother you.I wish I could quit again for good.Seems like you would have no problem if you wanted to quit.I have people tell me man you should quit you don't smoke very much.Well I enjoy a cigarette now and then eventually I might give them up.But that is not a bad habit you have only 1.There is more crap in the air that will harm you than that.

No medical professional will have told you that it is possible for a 15 year old to have lung cancer - it isn't. Lung cancer is unheard of in teenagers, and is extremely rare in people under 45. Research as superficial as checking out the info on lung cancer on Cancer Research UK's website or the American Cancer Society's website will have given you this information. It would also have told you that smoking-related lung cancer takes DECADES of smoking to develop, which is why most cases occur in people over 70. I suspect this is an exercise in creative writing EDIT: 'It's unlikely that I could have it, but tell me right now, is it impossible?' Happy to tell you right now - yes, it is impossible. As the day goes by the cancer professionals who answer questions on this forum will , I hope, see this question and they will tell you the same. The fact that I do not know you doesn't make any difference. Teenagers don't develop lung cancer. Lung cancer is extremely rare in adults under 45. Even though that isn't much you should still try to quit. You are at much less risk than a normal smoker, but this is far from safe. Cancer is kind of random--taking in more carcinogens might put you more at risk, but it only takes one to cause cancer. Plus, even one cigarette per day will adversely affect the health of your lungs. Finally, there is a good chance that you'll smoke more than one a day in the future--those things are seriously addictive. Cut them out if you can.

Most likely, you will not be able to remain on one a day. If you have the ability to quit it easily now...you will be thankful that you did. If you continue, you will most likely increase your intake and over time become a nicotine addict. I smoked for 18 years. I'm not going to sugar coat it... quiting sucked!!!!!!!!! I don't believe I ever felt so frustrated, snappy, unreasonable, angry, or unsettled in my life as I did in the first 30 days! Just don't start it and you won't have to go through what I did later.

One a day is not going to be efficient in due time and then it will become two ady, and so on and so forth. Take my advice and QUIT THEM FOREVER BEFORE YOU ARE TOTALLY HOOKED. I quit about 4 years ago and it has proven to be one of the top 3 most difficult things that I have ever done. Can you give me just one good thing about smoking cigarettes? There is not even one! So , to answer your question ; YES! One cigarette a day can lead to irrevearsable damage to yourself.

Not yet. When I only smoked one a day, my doc told me I was still at a great time for quitting and if I didn't it would only escalate. I didn't quit, and now I smoke over a pack a day. If you can cut them out, do it before you cough and wheeze like me.
