assuming everything in your life revolves around your PC:
if the computer breaks, you're broken too.
a well protected hard drive is more vulnerable to intentional or accidental destruction than a well protected stack of papers.
if you use calculators or excel too much, you forget how to calculate on paper.
if your internet connection goes down, you've lost connection with the world

Think about the number of things that are run electronically:
banking
pumping gas
the water pumped into your house
cash registers in stores
accessing your medical information should you be hospitalized
medical equipment run by computerized systems
and much more
Computers are wonderful and I'm on it much more than I should be, but it would be distrastrous if our computer systems were shut down.

Not having a laptop around. lol, well, think about it, world wide connectivity, entertainment, movies, music, games. other than spending too much time on the machine I see none if used wisely.
