The media says that it merely reflects how people live their lives. Yet others argue that the media influences how people live their lives. Which way do you see it and why?

Adults control the media (although many adults aren't really using good judgement) and the media controls children and adults with childlike minds (which may include many adults.) This is true of regular programing but not for advertising.

Although people "KNOW" they can't believe everything they hear and see, they don't seem to realize it and people rush out to buy everything they see on television advertisements. People think the ads don't affect them but if it didn't, the media wouldn't be putting it on television. People are suckers for buying things they are shown on television. It really appeals to the child like minds in all of us.

The only thing the public can't control is the continual onslaught of advertising...the Corporate States of America will keep this brain washing technique legal no matter what the outcome. I wonder what the adult public can do about that.

Don't you just HATE television advertising and annoying pop ups?

Well, exactly right ... it does reflect how people live their lives.... they are passive about the source of what they listen to ...

and... once I listened to press conference from the White House when Clinton was president.... and then saw the 5 o'clock
news reporting on what I just had seen.....that was the last time I believed the media....

That people should believe that stuff...
abominable ...!

If you let it control you, it does. Otherwise I think it's pretty neutral. I don't watch the news and I don't subscribe to hype, doom, or gloom.
