I do think that Boston reacted correctly. All of these people claiming that the authorities were ridiculous because these things looked benign? Just because something looks safe doesn't mean it is.
All of this could have been still a perfectly good marketing campaign, had to advertising company taken to the time and effort to alert the proper authorities that they would be placing things in very busy sections of the city. Some of these were even placed on private property...
Having lived in Boston, these places are the heart and soul of the city, and the police were right in being cautious. When safety could be at stake, shouldn't you do everything in your power to assure that nothing goes wrong?
Is it really too much to ask for some common sense when trying to "think outside the box" for advertising?

Boston over reacted. Those signs were in place around the country for over three weeks. No one notice. We as Americans are blind to any advertisements None of the other cities made this kind of stink over the signs. What I find scary is those two Bostonians being arrested for doing there jobs. Why was Boston the city to go on "alert" overthis. Read the news article found on the Yahoo.com home page. It stated that Boston spent $750,000 on the removal of those signs and might be planning on suing Turner broadcasting. I think Boston is just trying to make some cash off of this marketing play. The government does not care for our safety, why else would those have been up for so long?

Turner Braodcsting CLAIMS they were up ther for 2-3 weeks. Who knows. Boston officials did the proper thing. It's very easy for terrorists to do the same thing these nutbags did. They put htose signs on underpasses near subway stations, and near A MAJOR HIGHWAY. Even the otehr cities said when the were given the locations said Boston did hte right thing.

Yes, it's simply terrible.
A "terrorist" could simply walk around in any major city and affix promotional signs in several public places - and nobody would even notice it.
God, the humanity!
The people who overreacted to this are simply morons. Welcome to the 21st century, people. It's possible to create a portable, lighted sign. Holy cow.
You couldn't ask for clearer proof that we have lost the war on terrorism. We have lost our common sense along with our nerve.
Why in the WORLD would a terrorist even bother spending all this effort putting tiny little self-adhesive explosives all over the place? How utterly pointless. If they wanted to wreak havoc they could simply walk into a shopping mall with a semi-automatic weapon. Remember, terrorists are cheap and efficient.

If they were bombs, it proves there is NO WAY to prevent the placement of these kinds of items.
It proves the only way to stop that kind of attack is to break it up in the planning stages or before the planning stages - how do you do that?? Preemptive strikes/wars, better intelligience, letting the governemnt spy on the RIGHT people.

The signs were legally placed with a contractor and everything....
Blame the naive people who reported it,
not our security...
