1s2 2s2 2p3 = nitrogen 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 = magnesium 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 4d10 4p6 5p2 5d3 = niobium 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 4d8 = nickel 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 4d10 4d6 5p2 5d10 = tin 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p5 = chlorine shorthand e- config 4d4 5s1 niobium 3s2 magnesium 4s1 3d9 nickel 4d10 5s2 5p2 tin 3s2 3p5 chlorine the reason i shortened some of the above to shorthand, is because when you are writing out some of the longer ones, it can be very annoying writing out 1s2, 2s2, 2p etc etc etc for elements with a high atomic number, so some teachers/ lecturers let you shorthand it :-)
