You can ignore the parenthesis since they have no effect on the order of operations. Your equation is
5x - 7 = 4
Simply add 7 to both sides to get
5x = 11
Then divide both sides by 5 to get
x = 11/5........ x = 2.2
This is very basic algebra; I'm hoping that you're still in grade school.

5x - 7 = 4
(add 7 to both sides)
5x = 11
(divide both sides by 5)
x = 11/5
(which equals)
2 and 1/5 or 2.2
(depending on whether you want it as a fraction or the actual value)
I've included the explanation so you can understand how to do it and do some yourself. Can't put all your homework on yahoo! answers.

Is it that difficult? You start with 11-7=4. It has to be 11, because no other number will do. And then you need to ask what the x in 5x needs to be to give you 11. The x has to be 2.2 because no other number will give you 11.

(5x - 7) = 4, so
5x = 4 + 7, so
x = (4 + 7)/5, which equals 2.2

By order of operations, do multiplication first then minus
x = 4 / 5 + 7
x = 0.8 + 7
x = 7.8
