That 9 billion would have made a nice dent in the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf. Why did the Republicans embezzle the money is what I want to know? I would love to hear their excuses and spin on that come the investigations...

This is exactly why I can't wait for investigations into war profiteering and fraud to begin. And I believe an additional 1 million went mising after this as well, so lets make it an even 10. I often wonder how much of this money might have ended up in the hands of the insurgents, or worse Iran? To people like mattinhouston, I have this to day. If this doesn't bother you, then governent handouts to the poor shouldn't either right?

Depends on which countries receive the food. So many of the countries food is donated to are corrupt and a lot of the needed food ends up either in a corrupt governments's hands or in the hands of non-needy people who take and resell what they received for free or in illegal deals. UN projects and other agencies sometimes don't go far enough to see that these much needed goods get to the front line people they are intended to benefit

Not much because in the countries you are trying to feed. Most of it would get stolen before it reached the people. Then the strongest of the starving would take it away from the weak.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll never go hungry. The problem will never be solved by just spending taxpayer money. It will be solved by people taking responsibility for their own situations.
