Gerald Ford become President after Richard Nixon resigned because he was the Vice President. But how did he become the Vice President, and what position did he hold before becoming Vice President?

Bonus question: Who else became Vice President the same way that Ford did?

It really is surprising how many don't know how this works. I will give you one clue: It's in the U.S. Constitution.

The 25th Amendment allowed him to be nominated by a 2/3rds majority of BOTH houses (unlike with cabinet members who just need the Senate) of Congress. He previously served as a Representative from Michigan.

Nelson Rockefeller was the other V.P. not elected, who was Ford's V.P.

I'll fess up and say that the only online help I needed was the Nelson Rockefeller part.

Let see he became VP when Spiro Agnew resigned and was approved by the Senate. Before then, he was the minority leader.

I believe his VP was also confirmed. I think is was Nelson Rockefeller
