Never, really. Feeder fish are rife with parasites that you don't want in your goldfish. Plus, goldfish are not particular predatory fish. They should have a diet made up mainly of a quality goldfish pellet, and they should eat some veggies like duckweed or peas once or twice a week.

Fancy goldfish (orandas, fantails, etc) need 15-20 gallons per fish, with proper filtration. That may sound like a lot, but goldfish are big, waste-producing fish and they need a lot of room. You can keep more than one together, but allot each of them 15 to 20 gallons.

Larger goldfish like commons, comets and koi need to live in ponds because they can grow to 12-18" (and koi can grow to 2-3 feet).

You need to do weekly water changes of about 25% and replace with fresh water.

You need to treat your water with a dechlorinator to remove the chlorine and chloramines which are toxic to your fish

Goldfish do not need heat; 68-72F is a perfect temperature for them.

There are no suitable tankmates for goldfish, because goldfish are coldwater fish, and most other fish you see for sale are tropical fish that need a temperature of about 78F.

Have you properly cycled the tank? I suggest you google: Fishtank Nitrogen Cycle for more info, or email me, but I don't want to take up any more space here :)
