Unless it is dire for you to finish your garage now, wait till the weather is above freezing. Mud is water based, and it will not dry, it will freeze causing unsitely and unprofessional looking cracking if done in below freezing temps. If you must tackle this project now, figure out how to keep it warmed to above 10 degrees celcius. Even at this temperature it will take sometime to dry, probably more than a couple days. I recommend temperatures of 15-20 degrees celcius to dry and cure more sufficient.

Unfortunately, yes it must be above zero C before the mud will cure properly, or even dry at all. I believe you can mud in the temp range you mention, but if the mud dries at all it will take MUCH longer for it to dry, and may not cure properly. Could you put a small portable heater in the garage for a few days to warm it up? I am not sure if there is a mud for such cold temperatures, but if there was then the construction guys would not stop mudding new homes in the middle of winter due to the cold. If construction people wont mud when it is that cold, then I don't think you should either. Good luck!

I would go with 15C as a minimum, 18 would be better and up in the 20s is great. The cooler it is the longer it will take for mud to cure. In addition to temperature, insure you have good air circulation. It's going to get very humid and you need to get rid of excess moisture when possible.

This is one of those times when you have to "wait for spring". Once you've mudded, how would you paint and seal it anyhow?

You cannot paint below +15 C , so why bother?

Sorry, you're just going to have to wait to sit in your garage and pop open a few wobbly pops!

between 60-70 F, any lower and you wont be doing much the next day because it wont be set. any higher and you risk cracking because it dries too fast.

also, if the room feels nice and comfortable, it can be 10 degree's hotter near the ceiling.

if you got to wear a sweater it's tto cold, if your sweating your nards off after the first few minutes it's too hot

You can rent a heater to keep the mud from freezing, and it will help it dry faster.
