That and the fact that they "invent" new rights all the time. Can you find the following rights in the Constitution:
Right to health care
Privacy
Living wage
they also forget that Congress GAVE Bush the athority to do everything in the Patriot Act.

I believe you misunderstand the issue. People do not want to do away with the second Amendment but we also cannot allow people to run amok with any kind of firearm they please. We would have armed camps dueling it out in the streets. How would the police control rioters if all the police have are single shot rifles when the bad guys have AK47 semi-automatics? I have heard no liberal speak of a total ban on firearms. Controlling and banning are quite different concepts.
When one has a firearm for sport, whether hunting or target shooting and are properly trained in the use of the weapons it is perfectly acceptable. If one has a firearm safely out of the reach of children and is inteded for protection that is okay too. What people are against is anyone having firearms whatever and wherever they want. If guns had been secured, for example, would the Colombine High School incident have happened?
You register your car, which can be a deadly weapon in the wrong hands, and if your car is stolen you report the theft, right?
Well, if you have a firearm, which can be a deadly weapon in the wrong hands, and your firearm is stolen wouldn't you report the theft? So the perp who steals your gun commits a crime at least you look better if you report the weapon missing right away.
If you think registering guns will be an advantage to the government, think again. Look at the home made weapons being used in Iraq and how deadly they are. No one knows who makes these and uses them until too late. In other words registration should be seen as okay.
Gun collectors should be registered because of the nature of what they collect. An arsonal in the hands of someone who breaks in and steals your collection can be deadly. At least there would be tracability and an idea of the magnatude of what the cops face in trying to bring down the felon.

I've always found that interesting as well.
I'm a long time supporter of the second amendment and I just don't understand how liberals can claim they protect freedoms and are so American... but try and take away a Constitutional right at the same time.
I just wish more pro gun types would get out and vote and then maybe the liberals would back off.

Ah, the right to bear arms.
According to the writings of Thomas Jefferson in the Articles of the Federation which is basically the blueprint for the Constitution, the only reason that the second amendment even exist is to insure that the people have the necessary tools to overthrow the government if the need should ever arise again.
Which can quite easily be interpreted to mean that any weapon that the government has the people should also have a right to.
So why don't we just pass nukes out to the people?
There has to be some limits.

The liberal biased enabling media is the problem.
They refuse to cover negative news about liberal bedwetting moonbats and refuse to cover positive news about conservatives.
Liberals suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome.
Its real and it's incurable.
When stricken with this incurable disease, liberals minds warp into anti-American terrorist supporting mean spirited bigoted hunks of quivering flesh with an appetite to appear in front of a camera somewhere.
Liberals would gladly sacrifice millions of lives abroad and here at home in they derranged attempt to discredit President Bush.

Liberals try to circumvent and water down the constitution all the time, especially through the efforts of the ACLU. And they firmly believe there is no need for private ownership of guns, even for hunting.

It's not an unrestricted right. Could you go out and buy a gun? Absolutely. So where are your rights being violated?

In what cases? When have "liberals" (funny, that's not a political party) ever tried to strip you of your Second Amendment rights? I've never heard of any push to overturn it.
Can you offer sources?
