They gave me a chart to count on. I would have to count the kicks each hour for a day. From 10 to 11.. there were 10 kicks. They are wanting to make sure the baby is moving at least 3 times an hour or more. If you do not have any kicks in a hour.. call them. My son is active today.. but yesterday he did not move a whole lot, but I was having movements every hour. Today he is making up for lost time. He is trying to push my stomach out of his way. This is to make sure the baby is doing well. Good luck!
* I found my old chart.. this is what it says to do.If the baby is not moving at least 10x in a two hour counting period, then you will have to have a NST (non-stress test). It says if there are NO movements or at least 10 in a full 2 hour period.. Call the Doctor immediately. Hopes this helps you. Just make a sheet with a start time and end time and make marks for each movement and take it to the doctor on your next visit. Do this a couple of times this week, maybe 2 or 3 times a day. Congrats on the little one.

I was told to count throughout the day, as in different times a day if the baby is active enough. If I were to count how many time she kicked an hour I think I'd lose count and other times I'd just get non what so ever, she's a active one, so I just keep track of movements, kicks, jabs, turns, slight movements as if she's just turning in her sleep. As long as you feel the baby through out the day that's good. If you suddenly feel a decrease in movement, as in if the baby was very active and all of a sudden you don't feel that same activity than call your doc. Most times it's nothing but they like to make sure everything is ok. Remember when your not at the doctors office, you are the only one that can say what's going on with you and baby.
Enjoy your tickles, and Congrats!

Congratulations on the upcoming arrival of your little bambino!!
What the doc wants you to do is simply pay attention to kicking. You should feel movement of some kind every hour, but if you don't feel movement or kicks after about a few hours, make a movement and make sure baby awakens.
This is to simply assure that baby is fine in there, since we don't carry around ultrasounds we can do this by 'counting kicks' or feeling movement. If after about 3 hours of nothing and you've attempted to awaken the baby from his/her little slumber and no 'reply', call the doc up and tell them. Most times its of no consequence and the little bambino was snoozing too deeply, however there are times where that is a concern. Primarily after no kicks/movement in a 18-24 hr period.
Just have fun with the movement, enjoy your pregnancy, pamper yourself and be pampered and be thankful and don't worry. You WILL notice if something is wrong so don't obsess over this. What do I mean when I say you will know? Most women who do have problems with the baby say that it feels "heavy"...sorry that's the best description.
Again, congrats, Mom!

You should spend about 30 minutes a day and count how many times you feel the baby kick, move, push or stir. This way you can know how your baby is doing. If you don't feel much, you should drink some orange juice and then try again.
If you do this on a regular basis, if something is wrong, you'll be able to tell pretty quickly.

just some free time during your day lay down for an hour and count how many kicks or movements you get, if its less than 10., drink some sweet cold juice and try again. if there is still not 10 kicks call your doctor and let him know. its just to make sure your baby is doing fine.
maybe its 2 hours but my doctor gave me 1 hour. it up to your doctor. you can proally call the labor and delivery room, and ask somone at the front desk.

U should be monitoring the fetal movements, whether they be kicks, punches or twitches....u dont have to monitor them all day but take a certain time out of each day (preferably same time every day) and when u know your baby is most active such as after eating or lying down.. make sure y are lying down or sitting still and as longas u feel 10 kicks within 2 hours the baby is moving ok..if at all your baby isnt moving as much one day as he/she usually does then count them and make sure there is 10 within the 2 hour limit...Good Luck!!

I think that you count the number of separate times, not every single kick. Maybe keep track of the number of times and how long they kicked for - number of minutes. They just want to see the baby's activity level.

all the doctor is saying is that he wants you to pay attention to how often the baby is moving around. If you don't feel the baby moving around for most of the day then something might be wrong. That is all he was saying is just keep track at how often the baby is moving and kicking.

My daughter was born four years ago, and they never asked us to count the kicks. But they did ask us if the baby was active, and it was, so maybe that's what they did instead of asking us to count kicks. If you aren't clear on anything the doctor says, don't hesitate to call and ask. You or your insurance is paying BIG MONEY to that doctor, he/she can answer any and all questions you have.
