There is chances for the invisibility of the icon only if the hardware, chipset is not responding or working. try installing latest service packs to fix this! Now, let me help you with the shortcut problem. You see, you cant add up anything in the 'My computers' folder. But for creating the same thing somewhere else you can choose the option "New" - "Shortcut" and enter the source of the hardware.

Try this.

Start / Programs / Accesories / Windows Explorer

If you do not have a dual pane display Click on Folders on the top tool bar

In the left colum you will see your drives (you may need to click on the small cross next to my computer.)

Drag and drop your files to the floppy. (make sure you have the floppy disk in the drive)

This sounds wierd not to have your A: drive recognized. Go to your Windows Explorer and expand the My Computer. If you don't see A: there, then you may need to make sure the drive is attached properly inside the computer.

bring up any folder and type in the address bar A:\ as that is the default for any floppy disc drive so if the computer has it it will recognise anything there.

Interesting, have never heard that one before. I can only advise you to restart your computer and maybe it will show up. Also make sure your floppy drive isnt locked.

Open My Computer.

There will be a drive icon there you can click on to open your A drive.

You can also right click and create a shortcut for the drive on your desktop.

Seriously... Floppies are an unrealiable storage media. try to upgrade to a USB Pen Drive. you can find one for cheap in walmart or newegg.com
