I live in an apartment with a mail slot on my door. My door faces the outside and the cold air gets in through the gap in the door and makes my hallway freezing. Is there something out there where it can catch the mail while sealing out the cold? Weird question I know.

Put a magnetic mail slot on the back of the door - Office Depot has them online for $6.00.

Attach a decorative basket below the mail slot to catch the mail as it falls through.

Take a bag plastic or fabric and tape it to the opening of the slot all the way around cut an opening in it for you to be able to insert your hand to remove the mail on the side.

Try having a plywood box with a lid made. Then fasten it to the door. You can even put weather stripping around the box and lid to keep the cold air out.

Some boxes can be fitted to that slot of yours :) (no cheesy joke intended) look or ask in hardware stores, you might find one. You could always have one made. It isn't hard to make after all.
